The moderen pathologists use of digital images as a valuable and supplemental tool in diagnostic and quality assurance is rapidly increasing. Integration of digital images into the pathology information system has been performed since 1998 at Oslo University Hospital. At present the collection includes approximatly 170 000 digital images, varying from immunohistochemistry, ploidy to HE micro and macro images.
PatPict is a WEB system for searching and displaying quality assured images from this image pool. The user can search for images based on SNOMED code or organ of interest. The images is displayed in a multiframe view together with anonymized clinical and diagnostic information. Thus the pathologist can search for images that can support and aid his or her own diagnostic work.
Further developement can give external users the ability to upload images to organ based and/or diagnostic based libraries thus building internet communities based on diagnostic of interest.
