Interpath Interpath

The pathologists’ visual analysis of pathological preparations is crucial to enable a correct diagnoses and thus ensure the best course of treatment. IMI has developed several digital tools for image processing and analysis. Interpath allows for simple and intuitive navigation in the digital sections.

Overview

Traditionally, pathology diagnoses have been carried out with the help of a microscope. Though the microscope will continue to be the most important tool for many years to come, developments within digital pathology can give the pathology profession the “revolution” it needs to meet many of the challenges it faces. The requirements for and access to pathology services are under pressure. Sub-specialization within the pathology field is increasing and the need for additional diagnostics through immunohistochemical methods is increasing each year.

Internationally, the introduction of digital pathology is regarded as the paradigm shift that the pathology profession needs and has been waiting for. With current technology, it is possible to create IT solutions that can replace the traditional microscopes in many situations, and that can contribute to more objective and measurable analyses.

Interpath

The institutes research activities and the development of digital tools for image processing and analysis can be discovered through the Interpath web portal. We hope that in the near future Interpath will be a national reference center for Virtual Microscopy and TMA.

roadmap

  • A new and optimized viewing model which allows online and continual viewing of virtual tests (100-200 MB) over the internet.
  • Integration between virtual tests (scans), macro images (from other sources) and clinical data.
  • Administrative interface for uploading of images and data for specific users (log in)
  • Annotation tools with storage fro annotations and notes associated with the user documentation
  • Integration of Interpath Image Viewer with pathology clinicís operating systemDoculive. The pathologist obtains visual indication that the actual specimen number also exists as a virtual test. If the pathologist wants, the virtual test can be shown with Interpath Image Viewer.
  • Interpath Image Viewer 2.0
