About Oncolex in GAP Connect

End September Håvard Danielsen, M.D., head of the Institute for Medical Informatics and Sigbjørn Smeland, Director of the Surgery-, Cancer Medicine and Transplantation Clinic at Oslo University Hospital, travelled to Houston to launch the cooperation with MD Anderson on an international version of Oncolex.

Following their visit “Gap Connect”, a weekly newsletter intended to engage and enable global collaborations in cancer research, wrote the following about Oncolex;

“Håvard Danielsen presented staff and faculty at MD Anderson with information about Oncolex, an online, multimedia, medical textbook. Oncolex provides in depth information about more than 30 major cancer types and their characteristics, diagnosis and treatment. Danielsen’s goal is to use MD Anderson physicians to ensure the Norwegian version is translated accurately into English and to determine if there are any differences in care. Several MD Anderson physicians immediately expressed an interest in assisting with the process and GAP Connect will provide updates on the progress and additional details about Oncolex in the future.”

The cooperation has been initiated due to the Norwegian Radium Hospital being part of The Norwegian Cancer Consortium, which is one of the GAP Sister Institutions. GAP is short for MDAnderson’s Global Academic Programme. Next year The Norwegian Cancer Consortium will arrange the GAP Annual Conference in May 2012, in Oslo. This is the first Annual GAP Conference being arranged outside Houston. Håvard Danielsen hopes to launch the English version of Oncolex at the Conference.
